Positive Parenting Short Course - Overview
Our Positive Parenting courses give nannies, who spend most of their day looking after young children, specific behavioural management tools. The course focuses strongly on language patterns - how we say what we say and the impact that this has on the development and self-esteem of the child and how caregivers (and parents) have the ability to provide children with a view of themselves to be the best that they can be for themselves.
The course covers:
- understanding why certain behaviours happen, which assists with the response to the behaviour,
- the role of feelings and emotions, listening to children and acknowledging them for who they are and how they see the world.
- building self-esteem and resilience
- engaging co-operation using language and language patterns that are useful and maintain self-esteem
- effective discipline within this context, ensuring that the child feels contained enough to grow strong and feel safe
- managing sibling relationships
The course is presented by Parenting skills coach, Angela Hutchison and runs over 3 morning sessions.
Please note the course is currently only offered in Cape Town.
(Angela also runs courses for parents, please contact Kirsten McIntosh kmcintosh@telkomsa.net for more information)
